This is it! The final issue of The Animal Science Monitor in 2012! It’s the end of the world!

Okay, that was a bit melodramatic . . . BUT it would be especially prescient if the world really did end this month. However, we’re going to bank on the fact it will keep spinning, at least through next year, anyway. That being said, we’d like to bridge the gap between 2012 and 2013 with this issue of The ASM, starting with why you should conduct retention interviews, how you can connect with us in the New Year, and what career book you should read this month.

So we hope that you enjoy this issue of The Animal Science Monitor—and that you enjoyed this YEAR, as well. There are even better things waiting on the horizon.

Halloween might be over . . . but there are still plenty of treats inside this issue of The Animal Science Monitor.  For instance, we’ll give you five ways to show thanks for your employees.  We’ll also tackle the topic of being “likable” in social media.  Yes, we also have yet another FREE e-Book for you!  And those are just a few of the goodies we have in our newsletter bag.

So kick back, relax, maybe grab a few pieces of your favorite Halloween candy (if there are any left), and enjoy this issue of The ASM.  I hope it “treats” you well.

Exactly how fast is “the speed of trust”? What one thing can boost profits for any manager? These are just a couple of the questions that we’re answering in this issue of The Animal Science Monitor.
These days, there seems to be no end to questions, with precious few answers to be found. For example: “Should I attend the Penn State Dairy Cattle Nutrition Workshop?” Answer: “Of course you should!” And once again, we have yet another FREE e-book that will answer even more of your questions.
So as we enter the final quarter of 2012, we hope that this year has been good to you, that next year will be even better, and that this issue of The ASM doesn’t leave you with any lingering questions . . .

You’ve heard the old adage: “The only constant is change.” However, there’s a difference between change and the rampant change inherent in chaos.
In this issue of The Animal Science Monitor, we address both change and chaos in regards to business, but more importantly, your career. If there’s one thing that’s become increasingly evident in the marketplace of today, it’s that resiliency in the face of chaos is integral to not just survival, but to success.
With that in mind, we hope that you enjoy this issue of The ASM and that you enjoy our publication for many years to come. That’s one thing we don’t want changing.

At The Animal Science Monitor, we don’t dabble too much in politics . . . except when it can help you hire the best employees possible.  In this issue of The ASM,we draw a correlation between failed Vice Presidential picks of the past and how you can make hiring decisions you won’t later regret.

Becoming a “breakthrough company” takes more than just hiring the right employees, though, as you’ll see with our “Career Book of the Month” selection.  So regardless of your political views, we hope that you enjoy this issue of The ASM and that 2012 is proving to be a “breakout year” for you, your company, and your career!

This is SPECIAL ISSUE because it’s packed so full of goodies for you, we just don’t know where to start.

  • Check out our featured job of the month. It could be your dream career.
  • Be sure to check out the all NEW AnimalScienceJobs.com website!
  • Get your FREE eBook entitled, “Hunting the Headhunter.”
  • Dan’s Article on Candidate Vetting draws upon simliarities in this upcoming eletction.
The new site, emphasizes what you want most—namely jobs in the animal science and animal nutrition industry!  Job seekers can search for jobs by company, and they can also perform a more advanced search, which breaks open positions down by five categories:
  • Full-time
  • Part-time
  • Contract
  • Temporary
  • Intern

However, not only can job seekers browse open positions of interest, but employers also have the opportunity to post their jobs on the site for more exposure.

Depending upon whether you’re a job seeker or an employer, AnimalScienceJobs.com can help you find the job—or the employee—of your dreams.

So much about life comes down to performance.  Either you perform (and perform well) . . . or you don’t.

In this issue of The Animal Science Monitor, we tackle the topic of performance with semi-reckless abandon, specifically in regards to performance within the world of employment.  It doesn’t matter if you’re a manager or an employee: if you’re not finding new and better ways to perform, then your production is suffering and so is your company or your career.

With that in mind, we hope that we continue to perform at a high level and exceed your expectations as a newsletter—starting with this issue of The ASM.

So many things in life—both personally and professionally—hinge on making good decisions.  Making such decisions is the theme of this issue of The Animal Science Monitor.

Whether it’s the decision of whether to ask for a raise, the decision of who to hire (or not to hire), or the decision to attend an industry conference, these are the choices that can help determine the trajectory of your career. However, one decision that’s always a good one is to read The Animal Science Monitor.  As such, we hope it’s a decision you make . . . and that you enjoy this issue of The ASM.

To reward such a good decision, we have something to give to you. Dan Simmons, Owner of Continental Search and executive recruiter has just release an eBook entitled, “Simple Steps to a Successful Interview” that we’re sending on to our dedicated ASM audience. No sign-up required, no spam, just a link to a great eBook that will help you in your next interview.

Sometimes, success is predicated just as much on knowing what NOT to do as it is on knowing what to do.  In this issue of The Animal Science Monitor, we’re going to explore some of the things that managers and team leaders shouldn’t do.

In addition to my article on the subject, the May “Career Book of the Month” also touches upon the topic.  But wait, this isn’t a “downer” issue at all!  We also have an announcement regarding one of the newer organizations within the animal science and animal nutrition industry, in addition to plenty of other goodies.

As always, we hope that you enjoy this issue!

There’s something to be said for never giving up, which just so happens to be the theme of this issue of The Animal Science Monitor.  It doesn’t matter the circumstances or the situation in which you find yourself, the determination to persevere can often be the difference between success . . . and failure.  With that in mind, we’ll examine resiliency both in the office and in the field, because no matter where you look, challenges abound.

So we hope that you enjoy this issue of The ASM, that it inspires you to go the extra mile in everything you do, and that you also remember this quote by writer Blaine Pardoe: “Courage is holding on one minute longer than everyone else.”
